Christian Logos

Okay, so Credo has had the same logo since its name change in the early 90’s. You can see it here in the centre of the first photo. It’s functional, but frankly I find it difficult to work with design-wise and frankly a bit fugly. Our website gets an awful lot of hits and our presence on-campus has also increased in recent years so I reckon it’s time we redeveloped our logo.
The problem is that there are very few Christian groups with logos that are meaningful AND well designed. So I’ve got my little list of rules for any new ideas we come up with.
Firstly, no fish-shapes under any circumstances.
Secondly, crosses only if necessary to the design. i.e. not just shoved in there because we feel we have to.
Thirdly, needs to be easily subtitled. Every few years we have change of motto – currently it’s ‘Christ for UTS.’ Ovals don’t subtitle well.
Fourthly, preferably it isn’t entirely colour-dependent. Colour is great for branding, but a pain when restrictive and since we do lots of B&W photocopying a design that doesn’t rely on the colour overly much is important.
I’ve got a few ideas floating round in my head, but does anyone out there in the wide-world have any suggestions or examples of logos that fulfil the above to get us kickstarted?

Yeh that’s not much of a logo, if it could be called that. Very unimaginative, doesn’t really show who you are and what you are all about. I’m sure you know who you are and what you’re all about so that can be used as inspiration. I find all my best creative ideas come just when I’m about to go to sleep. For now I’m feeling an image of something iconic of being a student (probably ignore the drinking images) and link that with the mission aim.
